Washington United For Marriage Releases TV Ad Focusing on Neighbors’ Evolving Views on the Freedom to Marry & Referendum 74
In a new television ad released by Washington United for Marriage, the broad coalition working to defend the state’s bipartisan marriage law, a pair of Seattle neighbors talk about getting to know the family next door and how that changed their view of the freedom to marry. The ad will run statewide on broadcast and cable.
Chad and Lisa Johnson got to know Colleen Ozolitis and her partner, Lee Ann Martinson, because their five-year-old sons went to the same pre-school. Like so many other parents, the Johnsons soon learned that they shared the same goals of building a strong family and ensuring their son was happy and thriving. And a friendship evolved.

Chad: They’re a regular family. They read stories, they play Legos, they watch cartoons.
Lisa: They’re really good parents and we’ve become good friends. Same-sex couples may seem different.
Chad: But we realize they hope to marry for similar reasons as everybody else…
Lisa: To share and build a life together.
“These are the real family stories that are happening all across Washington,” said WUM Campaign Manager Zach Silk. “And in Washington, we support and value all families which is why support for Referendum 74 and the freedom to marry continues to grow family by family and neighborhood by neighborhood.”
